During these cold winter months and with Valentine’s Day coming up, I want to treat you to this delicious Keto Chocolate Milk with Maca and Vegan Coconut Whipped Cream. To enjoy with your special someone or to have all by yourself for some well-deserved me-time. :-)
As the base of the chocolate milk I’m using raw cacao and unsweetened almond milk. Biotona raw cacao is a real superfood and incredibly high in antioxidants. It’s a great source of magnesium, an important mineral to keep your energy levels high, to recover after exercise and to sleep well. It’s also rich in iron, calcium ánd it helps your body to produce more happy hormones such as serotonin. Raw Cacao is also rich in theobromine which resembles caffeine and can help you to focus and unlock your creativity.
I also like to add a heaping spoonful of maca powder, which is made from the South American maca root. Maca has a malty, sweet flavor. It helps to increase your energy levels, balance your hormones, and relieve stress. I have it several days a week as part of my breakfast.
Since raw cacao is very bitter, I also like to add a bit of keto sweetener or vegan chocolate protein powder (this one is sweetened with stevia) to balance the flavor and make the cacao latte nice and sweet.
When I’m having this chocolate milk as a light breakfast, I always add MCT oil and collagen. They’ll help to keep you satisfied for longer and beat sugar cravings. Collagen also helps with glowing skin, muscle recovery and healthy joints.
You’ll see that this chocolate milk is ready in a flash – a great snack to treat yourself to a precious moment of peace and quiet.
It tastes even better with a few spoonfuls of vegan coconut whipped cream if you ask me. ;-)
Enjoy!
Love,
Julie
Keto Chocolate Milk with Maca and Vegan Coconut Whipped Cream
DIRECTIONS:
- Blend the almond milk with the cacao powder, the collagen, the MCT oil, the maca and the keto sweetener into a creamy cacao latte.
- Finish with grated dark chocolate (at least 85% cacao) and a few spoonfuls of vegan coconut whipped cream, if desired.
- You can find the recipe for the coconut whipped cream right here.
JULIE’S TIPS & TRICKS:
- You could also use unsweetened coconut milk or hazelnut milk for a keto version. Unsweetened oat milk or rice milk taste amazing as well but they’re higher in carbohydrates.
- Want to make this cacao latte nice and sweet? I use this keto sweetener or this chocolate protein powder.
- For flavor variations try adding cinnamon, chili, orange essential oil (food grade), vanilla…
