Have you ever tried a slice of Black Forest Cake? It’s a famous German dessert made with chocolate sponge cake, whipped cream, cherries and chocolate shavings. Now before you get all too excited, we’re not going to be making cake today but something a lot easier and less time-consuming: a Black Forest Cake Shake that tastes just like Chocolate Cherry Soft Serve Ice Cream! If you’re a sucker for ice cream, like I am, you need to try this milkshake! It’s dairy free, refined sugar free and packed with antioxidants. An ice cream shake that is actually good for you – who can resist that?
Black Forest Cake Shake (Chocolate Cherry Ice Cream Milkshake)
SERVES: 1 person (2 cups)
EQUIPMENT: blender, rubber spatula
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup almond milk (or other non-dairy milk)
1 large ripe frozen banana, roughly chopped
¼ cup frozen sour cherries
3 small dates, pitted and soaked (or 1-2 teaspoons of maple syrup)
2 tablespoons cashews
1 ½ tablespoon cacao powder, unsweetened
1 large pinch of vanilla powder
Toppings: raw chocolate sauce, cacao nibs & chopped pecans (or other nuts)
DIRECTIONS:
- Combine the almond milk, frozen banana, frozen cherries, dates, cashews, cacao and vanilla in a blender. Blend until smooth.
- Pour the black forest cake shake in a nice mason jar or glass and add your favorite toppings. I used raw chocolate sauce, finely chopped cacao nibs & pecans.
JULIE’S TIPS & TRICKS:
- This Black Forest Cake Shake will stay fresh for up to 3 days in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
- Don’t have any frozen cherries at home? You could replace them with other frozen berries such as raspberries, blackberries or blueberries.
